Recuperación

En Estados Unidos el numero de personas que solicitan beneficios por desempleo ha disminuido. Esta es una señal de recuperación del mercado laboral a pesar de las señales de crecimiento económico lento. Esperamos que esta mejora se pueda dar también en otros países.

Recovery

In the United States, the number of people needing unemployment benefits has decreased. This is a sign of the labor's market recovery, despite the signs of slow economic growth. We hope this improvement will be seen in other countries as well.

Disminuye la pobreza mundial

De acuerdo a lo informado por el Banco Mundial esta semana, ha habido un descenso significativo de la pobreza a nivel mundial. La cantidad de personas en países en desarrollo que viven con menos de US$ 1.25 al día ha disminuido de 50% a 21% en treinta años. El objetivo del Banco Mundial es la eliminación de la pobreza extrema para el año 2030.  

World poverty decreases

According to information from the World Bank this week, there has been a significant decrease of poverty world wide. The amount of people in developing countries that live with less than US$ 1.25 has decreased from 50% to 21% in thirty years. The objective of the World Bank is to eliminate extreme poverty by year 2030.

Nos inspira el juego y la creatividad como la que se despliega en el festival del limón, que son caracteristicos en los niños. El tema “Heart and Soul”, música deHoagy Carmichael, evoca esto.  Publicado en 1938, fue simplificado y hasta hoy se utiliza como un dueto sencillo para enseñar a principiantes de piano.

We are inspired by the playfulness and creativity as the one displayed in the lemon festival, which are characteristic in children. The theme “Heart and Soul”, music from Hoagy Carmichael, reminds us aboutthis. Published in 1938, it was simplified and until now it is taught to beginning piano students as an easy duet.

Donación de arte cubista

Leonard A. Lauder, heredero de la empresa de cosméticos Estee Lauder, ha donado una colección de arte cubista valorizada en más de US$ 1 billón al Museo Metropolitano de Arte de Nueva York. La colección incluye 78 obras de Picasso, Braque, Gris y Leger, constituyendo una de las colecciones de arte cubista más grandes del mundo.

Donation of Cubist art

Leonard A. Lauder, heir of cosmetic company Estee Lauder, has donated a collection of Cubist art worth more than US$ 1 billion to the New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The collection includes 78 works by Picasso, Braque, Gris and Léger, being one of the greatest cubist art collections in the world.

Ejemplo de honestidad

Una pareja de adolescentes noruegos devolvieron una mochila conteniendo 467,000 coronas noruegas (62,000 euros, US$ 81,500), que había sido olvidada en un tren por un hombre de 71 años. Los adolescentes manifestaron que lo primero que vieron fueron fajos y fajos de billetes y lo primero que pensaron fue en llamar a la policía.

Example of honesty 

A couple of Norwegian teens returned a handbag containing 467,000 kroner (62,000 euros, US$ 81,500), left on a train by a 71 year old man.  The teenagers said that the first thing they saw were wads and wads of bills and their first thought was to call the police.

Podemos enseñar e inspirar a través de nuestras acciones. La honestidad, el amor, la compasión están presentes en las personas, más aun si lo vieron en sus padres. Y si no tuvieron esa suerte, aun pueden elegir actuar correctamente. Como los adolescentes que devolvieron la mochila, las personas tienen la oportunidad de enseñar a través de sus acciones. Nos inspira la canción Teach the children, de Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

We can teach and inspire through our actions. Honesty, love and compassion are present in people, even more if they saw it in their parents. And if they didn’t have that fortune, they still can choose to act correctly. As the teenagers that returned the handbag, people have the opportunity to teach through their actions. We are inspired by the song Teach the children, from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Volando sobre el Everest

Esta semana se conmemoraron 80 años del primer vuelo realizado sobre el Everest, la montaña más alta del mundo. El 3 de abril de 1933, 20 años antes que fuera conquistada su cima, los británicos Lord Clydesdale y David MacIntyre lograron sobrevolar el Everest. A pesar de enfrentar temperaturas de congelación, fuertes vientos y grietas en las tuberías de oxígeno, los dos aviones terminaron la travesía con éxito. Esta experiencia permitió avances importantes en el  diseño de aviones, como lo fue por ejemplo la implementación de cabinas presurizadas.

Flying over the Everest

This week commemorated 80 years of the first flight over Everest, the highest mountain in the world. On April 3^rd, 1933, 20 years before its summit was conquered, Lord Clydesdale and David Macintyre, both British, accomplished to fly over the Everest. Despite facing freezing temperatures, strong winds and cracks in the oxygen pipes, the two planes finished the journey successfully. This experience allowed important advances in airplane design, as for example the implementation of pressurized cabins.

Después de diez años de remodelación, el Rijksmuseum en Amsterdam, Holanda, abrirá sus puertas totalmente renovado. Este museo cuenta con la mayor colección del mundo de obras de Rembrandt, así como también con obras de Vermeer y otros grandes pintores holandeses.

Reopening

After ten years of remodeling, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands will open its doors totally renewed. This museum has the greatest collection in the world of Rembrandt masterpieces, as well as works from Vermeer and other great Dutch artists.
