Fuerza de voluntad

Después de estar desempleado por más de un año, Jesús Jiménez decidió dejar su pueblo en una provincia española para ir a Alemania a buscar trabajo. Como no podía pagar la gasolina para su auto, emprendió el viaje montando su caballo. Luego de recorrer más de 300 km y estando aún en España, consiguió su sueño cuando una empresa holandesa le ofreció un empleo relacionado con la hípica.

Willpower

After being unemployed for more than a year, Jesus Jimenez decided to leave his town in a Spanish province to go to Germany in search of work  As he couldn't afford to pay for petrol to fill up his car, he embarked the trip riding his horse. Having traveled more than 300 km, being still in Spain, he realized his dream when a Dutch firm offered him an equestrian job.

Rescatando una estrella

Hubo una tormenta enorme que dejo miles de " estrellas de mar " varadas en la playa.

Un pescador, al ver tal espectáculo, empezó desesperadamente a
devolverlas al mar y gritaba pidiendo ayuda a otras personas que
también observaban con sorpresa ese amanecer y se reían de él.

Uno de ellos irónicamente le reclamó la inutilidad de su esfuerzo.
" Para qué pides ayuda, qué no te das cuenta que son miles,
  no tiene ningún caso, no acabaríamos nunca, inevitablemente
  van a morir ".

El hombre que se empeñaba en salvarlas se detuvo un instante,
reflexionó observando detenidamente la estrella que tenía
en la mano y exclamó :   " esta estrella sí va a vivir ",
y la lanzó al mar.

Rescuing a star

There was a huge storm that left thousands of starfish on the beach.
 A fisherman, seeing this, desperately tried to return them into the sea as he cried for help to other people that were also watching, while laughing at him. 

One of them told him: "Why are you asking for help? Don't you realize that there are thousands of starfish? Do you really think that your effort makes a difference? We could never do it. They will die inevitably."

The young man listened respectfully, then reached down, picked up another starfish and said: "This one will live" and he threw it into the sea.

La vida se abre camino

Fue uno de los bebés más pequeños que haya nacido. Rachel Blythin nació prematuramente en Canada, pesando sólo 330 gramos, tan pequeña que su pierna cabía a través del anillo de matrimonio de su papá. La buena noticia es que después de meses de cuidado en el hospital, finalmente está en casa con su familia.

Life finds its way

She was one of the tiniest babies ever born. When Rachel Blythin was born prematurely in Canada, she was just 330 grams, so small that her leg fit through her father's wedding ring. The good news is that afters months of care at the hospital she is finally at home with her family.

Importantes avances contra la malaria

Investigadores anunciaron progresos en el desarrollo de una vacuna contra la malaria. Una prueba clínica en 11 lugares en siete países africanos muestra que esta vacuna en verdad protege contra la malaria. El próximo año se buscará su aprobación.

Important advances against malaria

Researchers announced progress in developing a vaccine against malaria. A clinical trial at 11 sites in seven African countries shows this vaccine does indeed protect against malaria. It would seek regulatory approval next year.

El leñador
Había una vez un joven aprendiz que se presentó a trabajar en una maderera. El sueldo era bueno y las condiciones de trabajo mejores aún; así que el joven se decidió a hacer buen papel.
El primer día se presentó al capataz, quien le dio un hacha y le designó una zona. El hombre entusiasmado salió al bosque a talar.
En un solo día cortó 18 árboles.
-Te felicito, dijo el capataz, sigue así.
Animado por las palabras del capataz , el leñador se decidió a mejorar su propio desempeño al día siguiente ; así esa noche se acostó muy temprano.
A la mañana se levantó antes que nadie y se fue al bosque. A pesar de
todo el empeño , no consiguió cortar más que 15 árboles.-Me debo haber cansado -pensó y decidió acostarse con la puesta del sol. Al amanecer se levantó y decidió batir su marca de 18 árboles.
Sin embargo ese día no llegó ni a la mitad. Al día siguiente corto siete, después cinco, hasta que al final de la semana estuvo toda la tarde tratando de voltear su segundo árbol.
Inquieto por el pensamiento del capataz, el leñador se acercó a contarle lo que le estaba pasando y a jurarle que se esforzaba al límite .
El capataz le preguntó :
-¿Cuándo afilaste tu hacha la última vez?
El leñador respondió:
- ¿Afilar? No tuve tiempo de afilar, estuve muy ocupado cortando árboles.

¿Cuántas veces estamos tan ocupados en lo que nos parece urgente, que le restamos tiempo a lo importante?.... Te invito a pensar... ¿Cuál es el hacha de tu vida, que no estás afilando? ¿En qué estás ocupando tu tiempo, a qué le estás prestando atención? Tal vez estamos tan ocupados en querer llegar al destino, que nos olvidamos de mirar el paisaje...

The Lumberjack
Once there was a woodcutter who started to work in a sawmill. The pay was good and working conditions even better.  The woodcutter was determined to do a good job.
The first day the foreman gave him an ax and a designated work area. The excited man went into the forest and cut eighteen trees in a single day. 
-I congratulate you, 'said the foreman, keep it up.
Encouraged by the words of the foreman, he decided to improve what he achieved, so that night he went to rest very early.
In the morning he got up before anyone else and went to the forest. Despite all the effort, he was able to cut just fifteen trees.
Astonished by his poor performance, he thought maybe he should rest more time so that night he decided to sleep at sunset. At dawn he got up determined to overcome his mark of 18 trees. However, he just cut seven. Then the next day he cut five. At the end of that first week of work he just cut two. He could not understand what was happening as he was doing his best effort.
He told this to the foreman who said:
- When was the last time you sharpened your ax? 
- Sharpen? I've actually had no time to sharpen my ax, I could not waste time on that, I was very busy cutting trees. 

How many times we are so busy, spending time in what we think is urgent, that we do not have time for the really important things in life? What is the ax of your life that you are not sharpening? How are you using your time? What is that you are paying attention to? Maybe we are so busy aiming to arrive to our destination, that we forget to admire the landscape...

Juan XXIII y Juan Pablo II serán declarados santos el 27 de abril en una ceremonia histórica en la que podrían estar presentes dos de sus sucesores. La decisión de canonizar dos papas muy diferentes al mismo tiempo sugiere la intención de Francisco  I de unir a la iglesia.

Juan Pablo II es querido y admirado por muchos Católicos por viajar alrededor del mundo durante 26 años como líder de la Iglesia Católica Romana, promoviendo el diálogo entre religiones.

Llamado "El Papa Bueno", Juan XXIII era entusiasta de caminatas tarde por la noche alrededor de Roma y visitas pastorales a niños enfermos y los prisioneros.

Beauty of the soul

John XXIII and John Paul II will be declared saints on April 27 in a historic ceremony that could be attended by their two living successors. The decision to canonize the two very different popes at the same time suggests Francis intention to bring the church together.

John Paul II is loved and admired by many Catholics for traveling the globe during his 26 years as leader of the Roman Catholic church, promoting interfaith dialogue.

Nicknamed "Good Pope John", John XXIII was fond of late-night strolls around Rome and pastoral visits to sick children and prison inmates.
