La revista “Neuron” publicó resultados de una investigación que podría significar un primer paso para encontrar un tratamiento contra la sordera. Siempre considerada irreversible, esta condición podría cambiar ya que es la primera vez que se demuestra que las células auditivas pueden regenerarse. A pesar de ser una investigación muy preliminar aun, es esperanzadora.

The magazine “Neuron” published research results that could mean a first step to find a treatment against deafness. Always considered irreversible, this condition could change as it is the first time that it is demonstrated that auditory cells can be regenerated.  Despite being a very preliminary investigation yet, it brings hope.

Ballenas libres

Hace poco comentamos la historia de cómo uniendo esfuerzos se pudo liberar a unas ballenas atrapadas en Alaska años atrás. Hace unos días casi se repite la historia, cuando unas ballenas se quedaron atrapadas bajo el hielo de la bahía de Hudson, cerca de Quebec, Canadá. Los pobladores se movilizaron para ayudar a liberar a las ballenas y ya se habían solicitado barcos rompehielos. Afortunadamente las ballenas lograron escapar, aparentemente por un desplazamiento de hielo.

Free whales

Recently we commented the story about how joining efforts resulted in giving freedom to trapped whales in Alaska years ago. Recently, the story almost repeated, when some whales were caught under the ice in Hudson Bay, close to Quebec, Canada. Villagers were organizing to help free the whales and had asked for icebreaker ships. Fortunately, the whales were able to escape, apparently due to a displacement of the ice.

Agradecemos a Edda por compartir la “Danza de las 1000 manos” de la Chinese Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, inspirada en la leyenda de Guan Yin, representada algunas veces en el arte budista con 1000 manos. Todos los bailarines son sordomudos. Como no pueden oír, ven y siguen a las personas vestidas de blanco, quienes los ayudan a sincronizar con la música.

We thank Edda for sharing the “Dance of the 1000 hands” from the Chinese Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, inspired in the legend of Guan Yin, shown some times in Buddhist art with 1000 hands. All the dancers are deaf-mute. As they are not able to hear, they see and follow the people dressed in white, who help them synchronize with the music.

MUSICA QUE INSPIRA

Como en el caso de los admirables bailarines sordomudos, las personas privadas de algún sentido no se amilanan para hacer grandes cosas. Ellos agudizan y utilizan al máximo sus otros sentidos, superando incluso a personas que no tienen esa limitación. Su ejemplo nos enseña a apreciar este valioso regalo que son los sentidos. Nos inspira la música y el protagonista de la película “Perfume de mujer”, quien siendo invidente baila un tango de Carlos Gardel y Alfredo Le Pera, interpretado por “The Tango Project”.

INSPIRING MUSIC

As in the case of the admirable deaf-mute dancers, people lacking the use of one or more of their senses are not afraid to do great things. They sharpen and fully utilize their other senses, even surpassing people that do not suffer those limitations. Their example teaches us to appreciate these precious gifts that are the senses. We are inspired by the music and the main character of the movie “Scent of a woman”, who is blind and dances a tango from Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera, interpreted by “The Tango Project”.
